Taking us Downtown…to Chinatown

MSA working with the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation on their Explore Chinatown campaign saw this year’s attendance at the Lunar New Year top 350,000 guests from all over the city versus 150,000 locals the previous year. With three Associated Press features, 280 articles and 43 TV segments, Chinatown expanded its new year celebration beyond the streets of lower Manhattan.

Downtown Express notes: “Although Chinatown has had Lunar New Year parades for many years now, this was the first time it was done on such a grand scale and marketed so aggressively, thanks to Explore Chinatown.”

The New York Sun, April 4, 2005: “The most visible impact (on the community since September 11) may be the Explore Chinatown campaign. It is successfully bringing new visitors to the community and creating a bigger profile for Chinatown locally, nationally and internationally.”
